The New Orleans Saints have had a relatively quiet offseason, but they have made a number of moves. Since the start of free agency, the Saints have signed Chase Young, Willie Gay, and other depth players while also letting franchise staples like Michael Thomas and Andrus Peat depart.
Despite all of those changes, Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report believes the Saints’ smartest decision of the offseason occurred well before free agency. Moton claimed in a recent essay that appointing Klint Kubiak to be the team’s offensive coordinator was the best decision New Orleans made this offseason.
Moton believed that New Orleans’ offense should benefit from Klint Kubiak taking over as offensive coordinator. Highlighting the Saints’ troubles on third down and in the red zone last season under Pete Carmichael Jr., Moton discussed Kubiak’s work with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021 and the San Francisco 49ers last season to see what he could bring to the Saints.
Moton’s evaluation of New Orleans’ offseason is accurate. The Saints haven’t made many big-name additions yet; the most notable addition came on the defensive side of the ball. On offense, things have only gotten worse since Andrus Peat and Michael Thomas left. While the Saints are expected to make more deals in free agency and the draft, Kubiak is the key piece expected to enhance the offense.
