JUST IN:Browns QB Jameis Winston Sends Strong Message on Backup Role

Although Jameis Winston is prepared to serve as Deshaun Watson’s ideal backup for the Cleveland Browns, he still hopes to start for the team again.

Unexpectedly, Winston signed a one-year contract with the Browns during free agency. Winston, a former first-round selection, was with the New Orleans Saints for the previous four seasons.

It seemed like the Browns were considering moving Joe Flacco back to the bench behind Watson. But Winston’s relationship progressed swiftly.

Winston declared, “I’m a firm believer that nothing happens by coincidence,” during his formal introduction on March 20. “Therefore, when this opportunity presented itself, we seized it, spoke with each other, worked together, and it felt like a perfect fit for me.”

Winston eventually hopes to return to the starting lineup. He does, however, think he brings a lot to the table and is taking his position as Watson’s backup seriously.

The fact that my connection with Deshaun is in a place where it may develop and thrive is, in my opinion, the most crucial thing. Winston continued, “And I simply think highly of him as a person and as a football player. In addition to encouraging him and giving him access to resources that he likely wouldn’t have received from others who have been in the same room as him, I look forward to being of service to him and this team in every way that I can.

Jameis Winston Wants To Play For The Browns In The Super Bowl
Winston claimed that Watson and he had kept in touch ever since they first crossed paths in 2014, when Watson was still competing in college. Winston emphasized that everyone, including himself, has a part in the Browns’ success, even if he has a great deal of respect for Watson.

Winston stated, “I think one of the biggest things I’m bringing to Deshaun is just really support and encouragement.” “Because he is this team’s franchise quarterback and because of all that he has accomplished. But we all help this ship sail, as many of us are aware.

Over the years, Winston has shown himself to be a wonderful locker-room presence, adding humor to his demeanor. On his first day at the Browns’ facilities, he showed it. A video of Winston and backup center Luke Wypler working out in the Browns’ weight room while dressed in full suits has surfaced.

But be clear about it. Winston wants to contribute to the Browns’ Super Bowl victory.

“Every team’s goal should be to win the Super Bowl immediately at the start of the football season. Winston stated, “I believe that is our primary focus.” As long as we share the same unwavering resolve to give this city what it deserves, I have no doubt that we will succeed and get along well.

In the QB room, the Browns also added Tyler Huntley.
In the Browns quarterback room, Winston is not the only new face. Tyler Huntley, a former passer for the Baltimore Ravens, recently joined the team.

In the absence of the reigning NFL MVP, Lamar Jackson, Huntley started a few games for the Ravens. He was an undrafted rookie from Utah who signed with the Ravens in 2020. In his starting role, he had a 3-6 record.

Huntley has completed 1,957 yards and 64.6% of his throws overall, with 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. 79.0 is his lifetime quarterback rating.

What the Browns have planned for Huntley is unknown. Winston and Dorian Thompson-Robinson might challenge him for the backup position. Alternatively, Watson’s recuperation from shoulder surgery may require the Browns to utilize him as an additional arm during the offseason.
