Before his pro day, Williams had dinner with the Bears.
Steve Wyche said on the NFL+ stream of USC’s pro day on Wednesday that the Bears met and had dinner with Caleb Williams before his pro day.
What lessons did Williams learn from that meal?
“It was excellent. “After my pro day, I don’t think I really needed to learn much,” Williams remarked. “It’s just about establishing a rapport. They want to know whether I’m the best candidate to be the first pick in the quarterback position and to lead the team in potential. Their goal is to determine whether he is the guy worth all of their time, money, and effort—all of which are obviously crucial in this case. It was excellent. only establishing connections.
Why does this matter?
The only team to work with him before his pro day was the Bears. According to an NFL Network story, Williams promised clubs that he would make time for them following his pro day, but he made an exception for the Bears.
The Bears also spent a good amount of time with him on Tuesday, the day before his pro day, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.
“The team worked on the whiteboard, watched films, and talked ball with Williams at the football facility for about half of Tuesday’s on-campus time. The Bears took note of Williams’ attention to detail. Instead of team officials, he was the one making notes while they watched the game to gain an understanding of Williams’ intelligence and his processing and learning style.”
Williams and the Bears are developing a relationship. With almost ten players, including Ryan Poles, Ian Cunningham, Matt Eberflus, Shane Waldron, Kerry Joseph, and others, the Bears had a formidable group in Southern California.
What are the Bears’ next moves? a visit among the top 30. The Bears will finalize the phases in their evaluation when they bring him to Halas Hall in the near future. They will be able to assess his character through a thorough discussion with him.
In addition, he will be eligible to undergo medical testing, something he declined to do at the NFL combine for any teams. He stated that he would conduct physicals for any team, including the Bears, that might be able to choose him.
However, Williams’ current priority is preparing for the draft.
“We are currently working on the visits,” Williams said on NFL Network. “We’ll shortly get all of it resolved. We wanted to make sure we arrived here, entertained everyone, and concentrated on my preparation for my NFL OTAs and debut game.”
