Blake Snell, the two-time Cy Young Award winner, may not have been available to the New York Yankees, but there are still possibilities that might improve the starting rotation. Opening Day is quickly approaching, raising serious doubts about New York’s starting rotation. Although the Yankees’ bullpen and offence appear to be in good shape, the rotation is limited because ace Gerrit Cole will be out for at least a month or two. Even before Cole went down, there was talk that the Yankees might acquire someone, and the team was connected to Snell and Dylan Cease, among others.
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees have reportedly made an attempt to acquire Jesús Luzardo, a budding star for the Miami Marlins. “The Yankees haven’t been able to get any traction in trade talks for Marlins star Jesús Luzardo or others, and the starters who remain on the market are more depth pieces, led by 2023 All-Star Michael Lorenzen and Mike Clevinger,” Heyman stated. Even though Luzardo isn’t as well-known as someone like Snell, the Yankees’ rotation would greatly benefit from having him. With Miami last season, he had a 3.58 ERA and a 208-to-55 strikeout-to-walk ratio; in 2022, he had a 3.32 ERA with a 120-to-35 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
