Prominent veteran running back Austin Ekeler will join the Washington Commanders for the start of the NFL season. After signing with the commanders, he will receive $11.43 million over the course of his two-year contract.
“Austin Ekeler gets a $3 million signing bonus and $4.82 million total in Year 1, with a chance to earn another $1.5 million in incentives this season,” reports Tom Pelissero. A significant accession to the new Washington administration.
The running back said at the official press conference that the commanders immediately showed interest when the window of opportunity for free agency opened. The organization also thinks that Ekeler and Brian Robinson together may make a formidable running back combination, with Ekeler having the potential to lead the team admirably.
“They were definitely the most interested,” Ekeler said, according to Pro Football Talk. “I think that comes down to the situation in the running back room.” They had B-Rob, so I felt it would be a nice fit if we could add another to that pair and infuse the team with some leadership.
“If you get me in the red zone and figure out a way to get me the ball in some space, I’ll score some touchdowns for you, that’s for sure,” he said in continuation.
Mentoring, pushing, and helping the younger athletes realize their full potential are all things that provide Ekeler with immense joy. The seasoned running back has no doubts about his ability to succeed with the Commanders team.
