NEW ORLEANS (AP) According to a person with knowledge of the situation, the New Orleans Saints and former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay reached an agreement on a one-year contract worth up to $5 million on Tuesday night.
Because the agreement had not been made public, the person talked to The Associated Press under the condition of anonymity. The NFL Network broke the initial news of the arrangement.
Gay was selected by Kansas City in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State, and he played four seasons in the league with them.
The two-time Super Bowl champion has made 47 starts in 57 games, totaling 233 tackles, five sacks, four interceptions, two forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries.
Gay recorded 15 game starts, 58 tackles, and one sack during the previous campaign. He caused a fumble, recovered three fumbles, and intercepted a pass.
Gay has agreed to a two-year contract through 2025 with defensive captain Demario Davis, who will lead the linebacker corps in New Orleans.
