The Buffalo Bills have re-signed Cam Lewis, one of their cornerbacks, after cutting much of their secondary to free up cap space. Lewis agreed to a $4 million, two-year contract with Buffalo that will keep him there until the 2026 season, according to his agent, Sean Stellato. It was Adam Schefter of ESPN who originally reported this.
Lewis, who played all 17 games in 2023 and totaled 275 snaps on defence and special teams, re-signed with the Bills for one season last season. While he played only 13 percent of the defensive snaps in the secondary, he totaled 21 tackles on defence. He did, however, contribute significantly to special teams, accounting for a 75% snap share in that area.
Following the 2023 season, the Buffalo Bills released multiple Pro Bowlers in the secondary.
Lewis has the chance to step up in the secondary and play more snaps opposite Rasul Douglas as a result of the Bills cutting loose Jordan Poyer and Tre’Davious White in preparation for the upcoming campaign. who the Green Bay Packers traded for them during the previous season.
Lewis has also made mistakes when it comes to safety, and both sides are currently unemployed as a result of Poyer’s release and Micah Hyde’s retirement. Lewis will have a great chance to develop into an important member of Buffalo’s secondary school in the future.
Buffalo is -$12 million Opposed to Salary Cap Getting Ready for Free Agency
Buffalo, one of the few teams, according to Spotrac, in negative salary cap area, won’t be able to make many moves in free agency other than re-signing players. For the next two seasons, Lewis has a genuine opportunity to mature into a valuable member of the team at a fair price.
