INSIGHT: Carlos Alcaraz reveals why He can’t compete against Rafael Nadal ; will Carlos Alcaraz be able to compete

The two-time major champion also stated that he wants to win Roland Garros “even just once” and described the French Open as “a super special tournament for Spaniards” in light of what Nadal has accomplished there.

Alcaraz and Nadal have both stated that they would like to work together to create the ideal Spanish doubles squad for the tennis competition at the Rio Olympics, which takes place from July 27 to August 4. The competition will be place on Paris’s Stade Roland Garros’ clay courts.

In a September interview with AS, Rafael Nadal declared: “To compete in doubles at the 2024 Olympics alongside him (Alcaraz)? I’d like to carry that out.

“Playing alongside Carlos to end my Olympic career would be a great motivation and incentive, especially considering everything he is accomplishing, the young people he is influencing, and the bright future he has ahead of him.”

Nadal has only competed in one event since January 2023, thus it is unclear if he will appear in any upcoming tournaments due to his persistent injury problems.

Nadal has withdrew from four competitions, including the Monte Carlo Masters, since recovering from a chronic hip injury in Brisbane in January of this year.
Alcaraz recently talked about the physical difficulties Rafael Nadal is facing and the prospect of facing the 22-time Grand Slam winner in doubles at the 2024 Olympics.

I am not aware of his condition or his current state of health. The 20-year-old Spanish player stated, “Obviously, as a Spaniard and a tennis player, I’m worried about that,” according to statements obtained by Tennis Majors.

“Let’s see how he and I do; we still have four months left to go.” Anything is possible, and I sincerely hope it does.

He’s a familiar face on TV. Growing up, I saw him play. And everything I’ve personally experienced with him has been amazing.

“I wish we had spent more time together, Rafa. I make an effort to make the most of any opportunity I get to spend with him and learn as much as I can.

In addition, the world No. 3 ranked player listed winning the French Open as one of his main career objectives while evaluating his chances of becoming the first player to win the Grand Slam on clay this year.

Because of what Rafa has accomplished, Roland Garros is an extremely meaningful tournament for Spaniards, and it would be an incredible honour for me to win it, even just once. I’m going to give it a shot,” Alcaraz said.

“I’ve changed and developed. I played in the semi-finals last year; two years ago, I was in the quarter-finals; this time, I want to make it to the final or win. I come to Clay full of eagerness and desire.

On Wednesday, Alcaraz’s first match at the Monte Carlo Masters this week will take place against Felix Auger-Aliassime.
