Former New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, who is 77 years old and a former co-chair of the White House’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, is endorsing Donald Trump, the presumed Republican nominee for president.
Since Rivera, 54, first entered the 2016 Republican primary as a reality television star, she has been an ardent backer of Trump. Indeed, from the Hall of Famer’s playing days, the two have been buddies.
“I am a friend of President Trump,” Rivera said to host Sid Rosenberg. That is something I cannot dispute. I’ll share that with everyone. He was my friend before he became president. I’m going to vote for him as a result.
Trump’s social media staff immediately posted the interview’s video on Truth Social.
A recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his mastery on the mound and his amazing journey from Panama to the Major Leagues, Rivera also served on Trump’s Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition council.
“President Donald Trump has awarded me the Medal of Freedom,” Rivera announced to Rosenberg. It was a wonderful occasion. That metal was remarkable to get.
When Trump gave Rivera the medal in 2019, he noted, “Mariano Rivera has made extraordinary contributions to American sports, culture, and society.” He is the most effective reliever in baseball history.
Furthermore, he embodies the American dream and is a shining example of the glory of America for everyone to observe.
Rosenberg then asked Rivera whether he believed that the nation needed Trump to be in the White House again in 2025. Rivera was responding to a controversial voice that had called tennis and soccer players names that were homophobic.
Rivera said, “I’m not a politician,” implying that he still backs Trump. “I’ll tell you that immediately.” Left or right, that is not where I’m headed. I always support the person who is acting in the best interests of the nation.
With 652 saves, Rivera leads all MLB players in history. He is also the first player to have been unanimously chosen to the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) Hall of Fame.
After gaining US citizenship in 2015, he embraced Israel and expressed his support for the Jewish state.
Despite his support for Trump, Rivera has managed to maintain his popularity with baseball fans. However, retired pitcher Curt Schilling has attributed his Hall of Fame rejection to writers’ “hatred” of the previous President and conservatives.
However, Rivera experienced no such negative reaction from BBWAA members, who in 2019 unanimously elected him to the Hall of Fame.
