Several sources indicate that Pat Kelsey, the new men’s basketball coach at Louisville, plans to appoint Ronnie Hamilton as his assistant coach.
Hamilton joins Louisville after serving as Matt McMahon’s assistant at LSU for the last two seasons. Prior to that, he worked as an assistant at Ole Miss for four seasons. He had also had staff positions at Middle Tennessee State, Houston, Tulane, Citadel, and Charleston State. At UNC Pembroke, Hamilton worked as a graduate assistant before starting his coaching career.
Hamilton comes from an intriguing background. In reality, he played football for four years at Duke, from which he graduated in 2002. After graduating, he signed a free-agent deal with the New York Giants, but was cut in the preseason. Since basketball had been his first love, Hamilton made the decision that he wanted to coach that sport instead of football as his future career.
Born and raised in Oxford, North Carolina, Hamilton is considered a big rising star in the coaching community. In particular, he has established a strong reputation for himself as a guard position recruiter and player developer.
Greetings to the newest employee of Kelsey’s original team.
