HUGE DEAL: Rams Set to land Heisman finalist quarterback in the draft

According to Bleacher Report, Los Angeles will select Michael Penix Jr. in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Los Angeles Rams’ 2024 NFL Draft is less than a month away, and the team might choose to pick anywhere in the first two rounds. Will LA choose to acquire a quarterback early in the upcoming month?

Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine appears to believe so, as he projected that the Rams will select Washington star Michael Penix Jr.

“It makes sense. Les Snead, the general manager, has never been one to approach the draft in a conventional manner. Garoppolo has shown that his best position right now is as a backup, and Stafford, who is 36, has a history of major ailments of his own.

Penix’s tendency to make forceful throws and his arm power to test secondaries all over the field are similar to Stafford’s.

Ballentine stated in his March 28 piece, “If Penix survives the first round, the Rams might be a surprise team to move up in the second to take the southpaw.”

Not many well-known names were picked for Los Angeles this week, including Penix. In his mock draft on March 28, NFL.com analyst Charles Davis spoofed Bo Nix to Los Angeles at No. 19.
If available, should the Rams select a top quarterback in the draft, such as Penix or Nix? To be honest, I’m growing more receptive to the notion. Taking either player would be a step toward getting ready for the future, as Matthew Stafford will definitely not be playing for much longer. It was conceivable for me that Nix and Penix, in particular, might lose in the opening round.

In terms of talent, Penix has far more promise than Nix. He is quite adept at throwing the ball, and Stafford would be an ideal coach for the Washington product.
But Penix’s horrific injury history will probably scare off most NFL general managers. That’s what four season-ending injuries throughout one’s college career will do. The Rams should definitely jump on the 2023 Heisman finalist if that’s what makes him fall. While my preference is for LA to tackle the defense early on, Snead must act if a quarterback with Penix’s caliber is available.

Even though I really enjoy Nix, I think Penix has a better potential. His history of injuries worries me, of course, but context is crucial when it comes to any player available in the draft.
Draft projections and mock drafts are the primary causes of the NFL’s “silly season.” Nobody can predict the Rams’ actions in the draft. But if the Rams are able to select Michael Penix, he might be able to help carry on Sean McVay’s winning legacy once Stafford hangs up his helmet.
