Tre’Davious White, a former All-Pro cornerback, is now member of the Los Angeles Rams. White has agreed to a one-year contract worth $8.5 million with the Rams, who are making adjustments in their secondary. Last season, this area of defense was viewed as a weakness. According to reports, White’s contract might be worth up to $10 million.
Prior to joining the Rams, White spent seven seasons with the Buffalo Bills. He was selected an AP All-Pro in 2019 and was in the Pro Bowl twice while with Buffalo. However, injuries have limited his playing time in the last two seasons.
White had a knee ligament damage in 2021, and he did not return until November 2022. Then, in Week 4 of the following season, he ruptured his Achilles tendon, forcing him to miss the remainder of the 2023 season.
The arrival of White is the Rams’ third important move to fortify their secondary during free agency. They also added safety Kamren Curl from Washington and re-signed Darious Williams, who had played for Jacksonville before winning the Super Bowl with the Rams.
Despite Aaron Donald’s retirement, the Rams did not add any defensive lineman in free agency. However, they did re-sign backup lineman Larrell Murchison. The defense will be led by new defensive coordinator Chris Shula.
White has been a starter for the Bills since his rookie season in 2017, when he was picked in the first round out of LSU. During his stint in Buffalo, he started all 82 games, intercepting 18 passes and recovering five fumbles.
Last season, the Rams were less diligent in improving their secondary. Despite losing key players like Jalen Ramsey and Taylor Rapp to free agency, the team only made late signings. However, those additions, like as Ahkello Witherspoon and John Johnson, made significant contributions to the Rams’ season.
Last season, young cornerbacks Derion Kendrick and Cobie Durant, both late-round draft selections, started 21 games together. However, with the acquisition of White and the retention of Williams, they are expected to return to supporting roles.
