The Toronto Maple Leafs, in the opinion of former NHL head coach Bruce Boudreau, had one of the better offseasons this summer.
Toronto focused on goal prevention by signing defensemen Chris Tanev and Oliver Ekman-Larsson, as well as goalie Anthony Stolarz, but they did not add any more players to the forward group. Although the team made few movements, Boudreau was pleased with the outcome.
“They did a great job with their defense, and I’m not just saying this because I’m from Toronto. The three additions they made to strengthen their defense, particularly with Tanev, come to mind. Boudreau stated on the NHL Network, “Ekman-Larsson is still a tremendously talented defenseman when he’s at his best. “Toronto already has the offensive to go with, and these guys are all really good players.” I honestly think they can get past the first round and advance a little bit if they can get the defense to go with it now.
Boudreau believes the team’s offensive prowess, featuring talented players like Matthews, Marner, Tavares, and Nylander, can help them secure a deep playoff run.
