The New York Yankees are hot, don’t look now. They have won seven out of the previous 10 games overall and all three of their recent series. They and the Baltimore Orioles are tied for first place in the AL East going into Monday’s play.
Right now in the Bronx, there’s a positive vibe, and a huge part of that is York’s trade deadline activity. With four home runs in his first three games with the Yankees, Jazz Chisholm Jr. made quite an impression. From their bullpen, Mark Leiter Jr. has also had a strong showing. Murray does point out one massive oversight, though.
“It might really bite them in the rear if they don’t acquire another starter like Jack Flaherty. Naturally, Brian Cashman shot it down, but according to Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees pulled out of a deal including Flaherty due to worries about his health. They could’ve done more, in my opinion. They’re tied for first position in that division, so we’ll see exactly how it goes and how big of an effect that has on them the remainder of the year. They are nice, but the Orioles are still somewhat superior in my opinion.”
