MADRID (AP) — In the Madrid Open’s third round on Sunday, two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz easily defeated Thiago Seyboth Wild, claiming yet another victory in his comeback from injury.
After suffering an arm injury that kept him out of Monte Carlo and Barcelona, Alcaraz triumphed 6-3 to win his first title.
Defending champion Alcaraz, ranked second, defeated Alexander Shevchenko 6-2, 6-1 to win his first match of the competition.
Alcaraz, rated third, is attempting to make history by being the first player to win the Madrid Open three times in a row. Next up for him is Jan-Lennard Struff, whom he faced in the Madrid final of the previous year.
