Browns NFL Draft Profile: Cleveland Browns selected Louisville WR Jamari Thrash with the 156th overall pick in the 5th round

On Saturday, the team chose Thrash in the fifth round.

In the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Louisville wide receiver Jamari Thrash was chosen by the Cleveland Browns as the 156th overall choice.

All-Conference pass-catcher Jamari Thrash gave the team’s wide receiver group more depth and playmaking potential. Before moving to Louisville last year, he made his debut as one of the top “G5” receivers in 2022 while attending Georgia State.

In addition to having an outstanding senior year for the Cardinals in 2023, he also attracted the attention of several NFL organizations with his overall performance in the Senior Bowl because of his ability to separate the ball and track it throughout the week.

What professionals are saying
“Thrash makes up for his lack of play strength with speed. He has a long history of widening the field and shown the capacity to find a second gear when taking short catches that develop into chunk plays or deep routes. He’ll have some challenges from NFL reporters, but formational considerations might be helpful. Though Thrash is physically capable of running a more extensive route tree as a professional, his small stature and weak hands lead to too many drops and losses on contested receptions. Although Thrash has extreme feast-or-famine characteristics, it can potentially be used both indoors and outdoors. Analyst for the NFL Draft, Lance Zierlein

“Thrash’s route running demonstrates most of his strongest qualities. He moves with grace. Thrash can easily weave between coverage and alter directions, whether it’s by broadening his stem without losing speed or lowering his hips to get through a route break. – B/R Derrik Klassen

All things considered, Thrash fits the description of a reliable movement-Z receiver in the NFL who has the potential to be a strong starter at a relatively young age. His dependable separation framework and innovative weaponry will make him an excellent rotational presence at the very least. – PFN Scout Ian Cummings

The Browns player draft in 2024 will only affect a “decent” athlete named David Bell. Bell performs well when called upon, but during training camp, Thrash has the quickness and agility to “jump” Bell on the depth chart.

Though Thrash is more athletic, Bell and Thrash share a lot of the same mechanics and slot-specific skill set.
