One of NASCAR’s primary worries ever since the Next-Gen cars were introduced is the Superspeedway racing product. Because the early parts of the race were less intense, the racing there has become rather clean. This was largely brought on by the competitors’ contentious fuel-saving technique.
Even if they detested the lack of legitimate racing, drivers were forced to embark on fuel-saving runs. Veteran Denny Hamlin of Joe Gibbs Racing, who was once highly critical of fuel-saving initiatives, has now proposed an outrageous plan to stop the fuel-saving runs. He recommended that the sanctioning committee shorten the 500-mile Superspeedway race to 400 miles.
Denny Hamlin thinks that because the race will be shorter, the team won’t need to conserve fuel during the pit stops, allowing them to finish in stage order. He said that adding a third stage to the race isn’t necessarily the right course to take and that he believes this realignment would make three wide racing the entire event.
If the speedway was shortened to 400 miles, the stages would most likely line up much more accurately. Yes, since we would constantly be battling for stage points, we could never save if a stage became a fuel run. We’re saving fuel because of this. You would see balls out racing all day if you extended the stage lengths to match the duration of an actual full fuel run where we could run wide open. I don’t believe it needs to have any more stages. Through Action Detrimental, Denny Hamlin stated.
Denny Hamlin explains why it’s not a good idea to update vehicles.
The three-time Daytona 500 winner talked about how, even if the Next-Gen is a remedy, making small changes to it isn’t a better option. He made the argument that if drag were altered, the teams would be obliged to run more constrained engines, which would force engine manufacturers to create new ones and ultimately result in the same old cycle.
Take the drag out of the cars if you want to improve the kind of racing where you can’t pull out and pass. It is imperative that you take action to lower the spoiler height. They will then need to restrict the engines further because we will be moving too quickly.
“We need to build a new engine based off of the new specs of this plate,” would then be said by the engine builders. Simply said, we seem to be returning to these engines while making improvements, and we just keep going around in circles. stated Denny Hamlin.
Superspeedway racing is a problem that NASCAR needs to solve because these events are the most interesting in the Cup Series. The sanctioning body will lose both on and off the track if this isn’t done.
