GREAT ADDITION: Cincinnati Reds Snatched Top Veteran Infielder from Baltimore Orioles

An interesting infield alternative was lost by the Baltimore Orioles from their farm system.

The main topic of discussion around the Baltimore Orioles’ infield this offseason was Jackson Holliday’s projected playing schedule and location.

In order to give Gunnar Henderson more practice at shortstop, they moved the top prospect to second base during spring training after announcing that he would be playing mostly there.
Holliday joined the organization a little more than a week ago, but he was not included on the Opening Day roster. Despite the fact that he has undoubtedly been having difficulty in the Major Leagues, the Orioles don’t appear to be panicking and they will give him every chance to succeed.

The front office wanted to make sure they still had a good depth in their pipeline before the star prospect got promoted.

This winter, they had claimed Los Angeles Angels infielder Livan Soto off waivers, but the Angels again grabbed their former farmhand when they designated him for assignment.

On April 11, Baltimore called him back into their system. He appeared in one game at Triple-A Norfolk before being designated for assignment (DFA) as catcher David Banuelos was called up to the major league team.

Soto moved into a new house.

The Cincinnati Reds have claimed the 23-year-old off waivers, according to MLB.com’s Jake Rill.

His 22 Major League games played for Los Angeles between 2022 and 2023 saw him smack.375/.414/.531 with one home run, nine RBI, and seven extra-base hits, making him an intriguing possibility.

He hasn’t, however, been able to settle down on a roster.

With Reds regular second baseman Matt McLain sidelined due to a shoulder ailment, it will be fascinating to see if the infielder can finally sustain some playing time.

Even though their infield is already full, the Orioles dislike it when fantastic players leave the team, so losing someone like Soto is painful.
