Due to a forearm injury, Carlos Alcaraz, the third-seeded Spaniard, has withdrew from the Monte Carlo Masters. Lorenzo Sonego will now advance to the second round in his stead.

Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada was scheduled to play Alcaraz, who last month successfully defended his Indian Wells championship before falling to Grigor Dimitrov in the Miami Open quarterfinals.

Alcaraz might also be keeping an eye on his readiness for the May 20–21 French Open.
