Days of uncertainty surrounding Carlos Alcaraz’s ailment led to his forced withdrawal from the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters.
In 2024, the youthful Spaniard will still not have won a match in Monte Carlo. For Alcaraz, it appears to be the first clay-court ATP Masters 1000 competition of the season. Some players just seem to have those occasions where things just never go right for them.
Sebastian Korda defeated him in the first round of the competition in 2022, and he withdrew from it the following year. That won’t alter this year because he had to withdraw once more.
Everything began with a practice session that he ended early, but concurrently, there were rumours that the 20-year-old would still compete and that everything related to his ailment was merely a precaution.
Alcaraz withdrew from the competition even though he appeared motivated. He needs to be healthy, which isn’t the case for the tournament, which runs from April 7 to April 14.
Using social media to announce his withdrawal, the two-time Grand Slam champion provided an explanation of his choice and the right arm issue that prevented him from fulfilling his objectives in the Principality.
Alcaraz, who saw some success on clay courts last year, will now concentrate on the remaining portion of the clay-court season, which will be extremely busy for him.
He should compete at the Barcelona Open first, then go to Madrid for the Madrid Open, then to Rome for the Italian Open, and lastly to Roland Garros for the French Open.
