The Green Bay Packers have made some interesting decisions this offseason. Moving on from David Bakhtiari, Aaron Jones tops the list of surprise trades. It has also been unexpected to see the squad add Xavier McKinney and Josh Jacobs.
The Packers will continue to add to their defense as they revamp that side of the ball. Now, reports are surfacing of the next move, which may be enormous for Jeff Hafley’s team.
Matt Holder of Bleacher Report explained why Green Bay is the best fit for Safety Kamren Kitchens:
While the Packers signed Xavier McKinney in free agency, they also lost Darnell Savage and Jonathan Owens while Rudy Ford remains unsigned. So, the team could still use some help at safety especially since those three took a significant amount of snaps last season.
While Kamren Kinchens’ poor 40-yard-dash time at the NFL Combine might scare some teams away, he posted a much better number at Miami’s pro day clocking in with an unofficial 4.57, according to Inside the U’s David Lake.
Also, the former Hurricane’s range wasn’t a problem in college as he racked up 11 interceptions and 15 passes defended during his three-year career. In Green Bay, Kinchens could be the ball hawk the team is looking for and would have a solid veteran mentor in McKinney.
The Packers allowed Darnell Savage and Jonathan Owens leave in free agency. Adding Xavier McKinney was a significant step in the right direction, but the Packers will still need to work on developing a respectable secondary.
They will need to add not only another safety, but also another cornerback.
Jeff Hafley, the new defensive coordinator, emphasized the importance of not only safety to his defense, but also the secondary in general.
