Offseason roster shuffles, particularly when a player departs a team for a division rival, may rile up fans — to the point where, say, a former franchise great declares an active star “dead” to him. I’ll address that shortly. However, such relocations are not unusual.
Last year, running back David Montgomery left Chicago for Detroit in free agency. Speaking of the NFC North, Packers legend Brett Favre played his final two NFL seasons with the Vikings, escalating tensions between two bitter rivals who find themselves again in the spotlight in this article.
We don’t know exactly what the 2024 NFL schedule will look like, but we do know who each team will play against. As a result, we can identify potential sources of poor blood. In no particular order, here are 12 of my favorite REVENGE matchups on the ’24 campaign’s schedule.
Let’s start with a banger, exactly like they do at WrestleMania, which this year will be held in Philadelphia. Tiki Barber, a former Giants running back, (jokingly?) stated that Saquon Barkley was dead to him after the star RB got a lucrative contract with the rival Eagles. I got it. There is no love lost between Giants and Eagles supporters. It’s one of the most intense rivalries in
The NFL. But I think this was a good move, and Giants supporters shouldn’t be too upset about it. Saquon played some terrific football during his six seasons in New York, earning a nice salary with a team that is still in its Super Bowl window (we hope, anyhow).
The Giants are in a situation where spending a lot of money on a running back is not the best choice. The Eagles, on the other hand, definitely shouldn’t have allowed their quarterback run for 15 touchdowns, so this deal made a lot of sense. I understand that it’s distressing for some to think of Saquon in an Eagles uniform, and Giants supporters will be outraged if he has a Christian McCaffrey-like impact with
Their divisional rival. But the dude is from Allentown, Pennsylvania (really, Whitehall Township) and should be allowed to return home. Furthermore, before criticizing Saquon, people should criticize the team for refusing to pay him.
The main event will be a rematch of last season’s title. It would be great if the 49ers could force the Chiefs to play for the Lombardi Trophy in this rematch, but for the time being, they will have to settle for a regular-season triumph. We recently interviewed WWE Superstar Bayley on NFL Total Access, and I asked her if the Chiefs, who have won three titles in five seasons, have come full circle to become the NFL’s heels (bad guys). I believe she agreed. But
