Josh Reynolds’ explain why he will not leave Detroit lion for Broncos..
Josh Reynolds was always the most likely to leave the Detroit Lions in free agency, purely for reasons pertaining to his expected role and what he would be able to obtain on the open market.
Thus, it came as a bit of a surprise this past week at the league meetings when general manager Brad Holmes referred to him as a member of the “Plan A” in free agency. Dan Campbell’s remarks at the league meetings, when combined, opened the door for Reynolds to sign again.
Coincidentally, or not, Reynolds came to terms with the Denver Broncos the next day. There was talk of a two-year, “up to” $14 million deal. The contract’s specifics would reveal how he might receive up to $14 million spread over two years.
Jason Fitzgerald of Over The Cap revealed the specifics of Reynolds’ Denver deal on Saturday.
The specifics of Josh Reynolds’ trade with the Broncos demonstrate how little the Lions thought of him.
Fitzgerald stated that Reynolds had a two-year, $9 million contract with the Broncos. In addition to receiving a $2 million signing bonus, he also has a fully guaranteed $2.245 million basic salary through 2024. His overall roster bonuses for this year are $255,000, while his total bonuses for 2025 are $510,000.
Reynolds’ full $255,000 in per-game roster bonuses for the Lions last season count as “likely to be earned” for salary cap hit reasons in 2024 because he participated in all 17 games. This year, his cap hit is $3.5 million.
