The Boston Celtics don’t want to lose Jrue Holiday for nothing because they handed up valuable players like Malcolm Brogdon and Robert Williams III for him. It seems that both parties are interested in an extension.
According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Celtics and Holiday are interested in negotiating an agreement together.
He is also qualified as of April 1. He is currently eligible, but as of April 1st, he will become even more eligible—this seems weird. Less restrictions apply to what he can sign as of April 1. Furthermore, I believe that there is a desire to move forward with the project as quickly as possible on all sides. On the March 25 episode of “The Hoop Collective,” Windhorst stated, “I’m not sure if they do or not.
Holiday is currently in the third year of a $135 million, four-year contract. For the 2024–2025 season, he has a $37.4 million player option. How much the Celtics will pay him and the length of his next contract are the questions.
With the Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers, Holiday was selected to the All-Star squad twice.
Jrue Holiday Offers an Update on Illness
Holiday suffered a shoulder injury against the Wizards on March 17, and the Celtics have been without him ever since. When he revealed the specifics of his situation to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, it initially seemed alarming.
“Jrue Holiday stated that there is more to his absence than just exercising caution. The point guard informed the Globe he has been having “dead arm” and missed his team’s third straight game on Friday due to an injured right shoulder joint that he claims resulted from being struck on a screen during the team’s victory over the Wizards on Sunday, Himmelsbach wrote in a report published on March 22.
On March 25, though, he gave reporters a more upbeat assessment of his injuries, according to Jared Weiss’ X account.
Not a lifeless limb. It felt like my arm died when I took a blow to the shoulder. However, it has nothing to do with nerves. It’s just the area of my shoulder where I was struck. My shoulder, though, is good.
Holiday hasn’t played since the injury, but it doesn’t seem like a deal breaker before the postseason starts.
Jrue Holiday’s Views Regarding a Possible Extension
Regarding his extension with Boston, Holiday hasn’t said anything. Nonetheless, he expressed his desire to remain in Boston to Brian Robb of MassLive.
In a narrative from January 26, Holiday said to Robb, “I’d like to be here.” “It seems like I’m becoming more at ease, and I love the city, the organization, and the guys.”
Holiday also mentioned the advantages of living in Boston for an extended period of time.
“I believe that everyone understands that we are secure, and we will be for a considerable amount of time,” stated Holiday. You will essentially return here with the same guys, regardless of what transpires. Events occur, but I believe you learn to accept them and allow yourself to be at ease, relieving some of the need to plan ahead.
More information regarding Holiday’s long-term future with the Celtics should become available on April 1.
