The Pittsburgh Steelers made a low-risk, high-reward play by trading for Justin Fields.
They just had to give up a conditional sixth-round pick to acquire a youthful former first-round pick.
That’s why, given Russell Wilson’s age and decline, some believe the door is wide open for the Ohio State product to take over the starting job in the near future.
However, that is not how NFL analyst Craig Carton feels right now.
Talking on The Carton Show, he didn’t spare his words against Fields, and indicated that there’s simply none possibility that he will play next season.
“Justin Fields has not earned the right to play starting quarterback in the NFL. “Nobody wanted him except the Pittsburgh Steelers because he stinks,” Carton explained.
The controversial commentator went on to say that Fields has done nothing to demonstrate his ability to be a starter at the next level, and he is unlikely to be more than a backup in Pittsburgh, so people should put that issue to rest and stop talking about him.
To be honest, Fields’ numbers have not been that outstanding.
However, the Chicago Bears did not do anything to help him flourish.
Furthermore, his contract situation had a significant impact on his trade value, and he would have likely had greater league-wide interest if he still had a year remaining on his contract or was a free agency.
Now it’s up to him to prove everyone wrong.
