The novice For head coach DeMeco Ryan, the Houston Texans have already added five possible new starters to their defense this offseason.
This involves securing a substantial contract in NFL free agency for Pro Bowl edge rusher Danielle Hunter. Houston added cornerback Jeff Okudah, a former top-three choice of the Detroit Lions, even though the other transactions were more quiet.
General manager Nick Caserio seems to be far from done.
Houston has reportedly doubled down on the cornerback position with former first-round pick C.J. Henderson of the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Henderson, 25, is a noteworthy inclusion. He is still quite young. But in his four-year career, the former Florida standout has not performed well in stints with the aforementioned Jaguars and Carolina Panthers. Given that the third and fourth waves of free agency are approaching, it appears that Ryans is taking on some reclamation initiatives.
Former first-round picks are lining up for the Houston Texans.
Henderson has spent four seasons in the league, making 49 appearances with 32 starts. The youthful corner played in 12 games last season, including seven starts. When targeted, he produced a 73% completion rate and a 106.8 QB rating. This is why we brought up reclamation initiatives.
We do know that Houston’s defensive team currently has five former first-round selections.
Edge, Will Anderson Jr.
Barnett Derek, EDGE
Cornerbacks C.J. Henderson, cornerback, Derek Stinely Jr., cornerback Jeff Okudah
Four of those five were among the top ten choices. Here, it’s all about Ryans doing his magic.
