FOX 9 MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Twins will host a day of festivities to commemorate their home opening before their April 4 game against the Cleveland Guardians.
Reigning American League Central Division winners, the Twins unveiled their preparations for their home opener on Tuesday. First up is the custom of having breakfast on the plaza from 6 to 9 a.m., when fans can purchase coffee and a “ballpark-inspired breakfast.”
At 1:00 p.m., Twins Legends will open the ballpark’s gates. On April 4 and 6, the first 10,000 fans through the gates will receive a Minnesota Twins beanie.
A ceremonial first pitch and the dedication of the TV broadcast booth will be part of the ceremony for Twins announcer Dick Bremer during the home opener.
The Twins will also pay tribute to the first responders from Burnsville who lost their lives in a shooting at a residence on February 18. In honour of Burnsville Police Officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge as well as Firefighter-Paramedic Adam Finseth, there will be a video and a minute of silence. Along with the Minneapolis Police, Fire Bag Pipe Band, and other first responders, the game will also feature a special starting lineup featuring Burnsville and Dakota County first responders.
The National Anthem, a flyover, and other events are also part of the pregame celebrations. On April 4, the first pitch is set to begin at 3:10 p.m.
