Kenny Pickett’s social media behaviour could be another indication that he was disgruntled with the Pittsburgh Steelers before being dealt to the Philadelphia Eagles last week.
Pickett came to social media on Sunday, as many other sportsmen do after being transferred, to bid farewell to and thank his former team—or did he? Pickett expressed on Instagram that he is glad “for all of the amazing people I was fortunate enough to cross paths with” after enrolling at the University of Pittsburgh as a freshman in 2017. However, the quarterback made no particular reference to the Steelers organization.
Thank you, Pittsburgh. I moved to this city seven years ago, and it changed my life forever. I’m grateful for all of the fantastic people I’ve met and for everyone who has supported me along the journey. I formed lifelong friendships and ties that I will always treasure.
Now, I’m honoured and enthusiastic for the next step in my career: playing for the team that helped me discover my passion for the game as a kid. “Go Birds!” Pickett wrote.
After Pickett was dealt to the Eagles on Friday, sources stated that the Steelers made the move because the former first-round pick reacted negatively to the team’s choice to sign Russell Wilson. Another source stated that Pickett cancelled an out-of-town exercise with Steelers wide-outs.
Without such reports, it would be difficult to conclude that Pickett snubbed the Steelers in his farewell speech. But when you factor in the alleged troubles he had with the team late last season, all of the signals start to pile up.
Even if he did not leave the Steelers out on purpose, Pickett will most likely have negative memories of his time with the team.
