The return of seasoned offensive lineman George Fant has pleased the Seattle Seahawks.
This offseason, offensive tackle George Fant will return to the Seattle Seahawks after signing a two-year contract.
Fant, 31, joined the Seahawks’ offensive line depth after going undrafted in 2016. Prior to signing with the New York Jets, he was a vital member of Seattle’s squad in 2018 and 2019, despite rupturing his ACL in 2017.
Fant spent three seasons as a member of the Jets, but his injury-plagued 2022 season saw him appear in just eight games. Fant did, however, bounce back in 2023 with the Houston Texans, starting 13 games as the squad unexpectedly qualified for the playoffs. The Seahawks welcomed him back to his birthplace after he rejuvenated his career in Houston.
According to Schneider, “He did a really nice job down in Houston last year,” Seattle Sports said. He is a versatile player who can play guard in the past and left and right tackle. Obviously, we know him quite well. It’s wonderful to see him smile today since he’s a nice guy and is very happy to be back in the building. He’s a terrific guy and a fierce competitor. He was thrilled to return since it was quite nice to watch him hugging every person in the building that he had missed over the years. Indeed, he will function as a utility offensive lineman.
For an extended season, offensive linemen with Fant’s level of versatility are essential. He has been allowed to play in the league for nine years because of this. The Seahawks need depth in the trenches after losing guard Damien Lewis and backup lineman Jake Curhan, and Fant delivers just that.
