ESPN first revealed that rookie forward Bennedict Mathurin would require season-ending surgery on his shoulder, which was devastating news for the Indiana Pacers. This season, the Pacers’ lineup saw significant changes on both ends of the court, thanks in large part to Mathurin. Without the gifted young player, Indiana will have to push through to the playoffs.
Rick Carlisle, the head coach of the Pacers, recently discussed how terrible an injury this will be for the team going forward. It’s a significant loss. Guy, that’s seeing a lot of growth,” Carlisle said on X, the social media site that was formerly known as Twitter, according to Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star.
Carlisle also explained his thoughts on why he thinks Bennedict Mathurin will return in the future, stronger than ever.
“One of the franchise’s mainstays going forward. Carlisle, according to the Indiana Pacers’ official team account on X, “is one of our best players and one of the hardest workers I’ve ever been around. There’s not even any question about it.”
In fact, in his brief time with the squad thus far, Mathurin has shown himself to be one of the team’s strongest motors, constantly adding hustle and energy to the lineup in addition to his inherent brilliance.
In any event, the Pacers’ next away game is a Tuesday night matchup with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the best team in the West.
