A deal between the Dallas Cowboys and their division opponent may pique their attention.
Sports Illustrated’s Mike Fisher said that a “source” says the Cowboys are considering a trade for Haason Reddick, a linebacker with the Philadelphia Eagles who has been to two Pro Bowls. Reddick, 29, is free to look for a trade.
Dallas and Jacksonville are two of the clubs who are “interested” in making a deal, according to Fisher, since “the Cowboys have’respect’ for Reddick as well.”
Fisher goes on to say that the Cowboys are “investigating” trades for Reddick.
The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly looking into methods to acquire Reddick, according to an NFL source who spoke with CowboysSI.com, writes Fisher.
One of the Best Pass Rushers in the NFL is Haason Reddick
After recording an 11-sack season, the seven-year-old veteran just qualified for his second straight Pro Bowl. In 2022, he recorded a career-high 16 sacks; in that same year, four Eagles defenders had double-digit sack totals.
Reddick’s output is hardly a problem, but the Eagles are going through a defensive line fire sale of sorts. Additionally, they are shopping Josh Sweat, who was a member of the Pro Bowl in 2021 and finished 2022 with 11 sacks.
As Fisher points out, given salary cap considerations, a trade for Reddick might make more sense after June 1. $16 million in cap savings and a $5.8 million dead cap hit would arise from trading Reddick after June 1. In contrast, Reddick’s trade before June 1 would save just $1.3 million in salary space but come with a $20.5 million dead cap charge.”The question of money returning in a deal for Reddick? Right now, everyone can speculate. particularly since Philly needs to act after June 1 in order to take advantage of the cap, as doing so will mean that draft picks for him won’t be available until around 2025, says Fisher.
Reddick has recorded at least 11 sacks in each of the last four seasons, for a total of 40.5 sacks over that span, which is the fourth-highest amount in the NFL since 2020.The Unlikelihood of the Cowboys Trading for Haason Reddick
It’s not shocking that the Cowboys would be interested in signing one of the best young pass rushers in the NFL, but it’s difficult to picture the Eagles dealing one of their players to their main division foe. of draft capital that Dallas is prepared to forfeit.
In a more plausible scenario in which the Cowboys sign Reddick, the Eagles just cut him before Dallas signs him.
According to Fisher, “the Eagles could cut him and save $16 million under the salary cap, or the Cowboys and other teams could force the Eagles’ hand and hope he gets released with a post-June 1 designation.”
It’s difficult to imagine the Eagles releasing a sack artist in the prime of his career and not getting anything in exchange. We’ll see what the team decides to do with Reddick. Reddick might be worth a second-round selection in a trade, according to Pro Football Focus.
With stops with the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers, Reddick has accumulated 58 sacks and 410 tackles in 81 starts over the course of seven seasons.
