The Buffalo Bills have made a shocking release of a veteran safety in cap-saving move

Ahead of NFL Free Agency, the Buffalo Bills have made an unexpected move. Jordan Poyer, a seasoned safety, was informed by Buffalo that he was cut from the team on Wednesday, according to Ari Meirov (via Adam Schefter). Together with previous bold decisions, Poyer’s release will provide the Bills greater flexibility with their cap space.
Before NFL Free Agency, the Bills part ways with a longstanding safety and make more personnel changes.
After seven years with Buffalo, the team ultimately chose to split ways with Jordan Poyer. According to Meirov, the move will allow the Bills to have $5.7 million in salary cap room.
Making the Pro Bowl in 2022, the 32-year-old safety was named to Buffalo’s All-Pro team in 2021. He produced a strong year in 2023 as a follow-up to his achievement. Poyer recorded four passes defensed, 34 assists, and 67 solo tackles.

Although it is sad to see him go, the Bills will benefit monetarily as they give other roster issues priority. Buffalo did not stop at severing ties with Poyer on Wednesday.

According to Ian Rapoport, defensive back Siran Neal, who was owed $3 million in pay in 2024, was cut by the Bills. Neal played for the Buffalo Bills for six seasons. In 2019, he recorded 36 total tackles and one forced fumble, marking his finest year to date. He now hopes to help a fresh group of players.
