JUST IN: Miami Dolphins are set to interview Texans Linebacker Coach for Defensive Coordinator Job

Another Houston Texans coach might be on the move this offseason.

According to sources, the Miami Dolphins will interview Texans linebackers coach Chris Kiffin on Friday for the vacant defensive coordinator position.

Vic Fangio, former defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, just left the team after one season to join the Philadelphia Eagles in the same job.
Kiffin, the younger brother of Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin, left the Cleveland Browns to join the Texans under first-year coach DeMeco Ryans. The son of former NFL defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, he has spent the last six seasons in the league, including trips in San Francisco and Cleveland.

Chris Kiffin also played college football for more than a decade, at Idaho, Nebraska, USC, Ole Miss, Arkansas State, and Florida Atlantic. Under Lane Kiffin, Chris Kiffin served as the Owls’ defensive coordinator in 2017.

Houston’s linebackers were one of its best defensive teams, led by second-year standout Christian Harris. The 2022 third-round pick from Alabama progressed steadily throughout the season, becoming a regular in the Texans’ front seven, particularly in pass coverage.

Harris, who concluded the regular season with 101 total tackles and two sacks, came up big in the wild-card round victory over the Cleveland Browns, returning a 38-yard interception for a touchdown in the third quarter against Joe Flacco.

Blake Cashman, a veteran linebacker known for his special teams play, recorded a career-high 106 tackles and five pass breakups. Denzel Perryman and rookie Henry To’oTo’o also helped the team improve their run support from the worst in the league to a top-10 position.

Following an AFC South championship season, two offensive coaches are being considered for promotions. Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik is a finalist for the Washington Commanders’ head coaching position after assisting C.J. Stroud in becoming a rising star during his rookie season.
